Dog Tags

Our main craft was a "dog tag" necklace that the girls stamped the camp theme on, "Find the Courage Within" and a washer they stamped with their names.
Our free time crafts were:  friendship bracelets,  Wizard of Oz coloring pages, cloth pencil pouches they could color and ribbon flower headbands.  The friendship bracelets were definitely the most popular free time craft.

Wheelchair Bags

Our service project for girls camp was for Oakland Children's Hospital.  When children stay there for treatment and are assigned a wheelchair, they are given a bag that fits on the back of the wheelchair to put their toys, coloring books and anything else they want to carry in it.  This year at camp, 140 girl hours were spent making 75 wheelchair bags.  Also two quilts were made to donate to the hospital.  One week after camp everything was delivered to Children's hospital by Sister Wilding and Sister Renshaw.  The service coordinator was so thrilled with the bags and quilts.  While we were there, we saw a little girl who looked about 4 years old rolling down the hall towards us in a wheelchair.  When she passed us, we noticed a cute wheelchair bag on the back of her chair.  Wow!  Thanks to all that spent time in service at girl's camp this year.

1st Aid Clinic

We hold a 1st aid clinic every year before camp.  This year we did it a little different to make it more fun.  There were four stations set up and run by the YCL's.  Each station included 1st aid and something fun about camp.

Camp Crafts(value bracelet) & shock, fainting, heat exhaustion, hypothermia & frostbite
Camp Hairstyles/The Cup Game & excessive bleeding, poisoning, cravat bandage demo
Camp Songs & heimlich maneuver, rescue breathing(now changed)
What Happens at Camp & purpose of 1st aid, 4 steps for a victim, what's in a 1st aid kit

This was for the 1st and 2nd years and it doubled as an orientation.  The YCL's did such a great job and the girls loved it.  The 3rd and 4th years did their normal 1st aid at the same time in different rooms.  The girls that don't attend use some of their free time at camp to do their 1st aid with the nurses.
